Jenna Miscavige

HI, I'M JENNA.

I grew up inside
scientology. I escaped when I was 22.

I was born and raised in Scientology and spent half of my life in their most dedicated group, called the Sea Organization, where you sign 1 billion year contracts, work 100-hour weeks, and are not allowed to have children.

I was separated from my family as a child, was only allowed to go to school one day a week, and was totally isolated from the outside world.

Leaving meant figuring out what I believed, who I was, and what I wanted my life to look like.

MY FAMILY

my uncle runs scientology.

David Miscavige is my uncle and the leader of Scientology. He took control of the organization after its founder, L. Ron Hubbard, died in 1986, and has been its ultimate authority ever since.

He has been accused by numerous former high-ranking Scientologists of physically assaulting members of his staff. The New York Times reported extensively on those accounts.

Under his control, following in the footsteps of its founder, Scientology has continued to be a child-abusing, human-trafficking, family-destroying cult that stalks and harasses people who dare to speak out against it.

He and his wife, my aunt Shelly Miscavige, were a major presence in my life growing up and they were the leaders of the world that controlled nearly every aspect of my childhood.

so why am I still talking about scientology?

Because I know what it looks like from the inside. And because my name gives me a unique opportunity to bring awareness to this subject.

I’m passionate about putting an end to Scientology’s human rights violations and warning people about the true nature of this cult.

I make videos answering the questions people actually have and explaining a world that can be incredibly difficult to understand from the outside.

Sometimes the questions are serious. Sometimes they’re bizarre. Scientology provides plenty of both.

THE BOOK

beyond belief

In 2013 I published Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape, which became a New York Times bestseller.

It tells the story of growing up inside Scientology, questioning the world I had been raised in, and eventually leaving it.

these days, I mostly tell stories on the internet.

I make videos about Scientology, cults, the people and systems behind them, and what it's actually like to build a life after leaving one.

WHERE I AM NOW

and now I make pottery.

Somewhere along the way I started making ceramics and became slightly obsessed with it.

I make mugs and little dishes by hand and sell them through my shop, Wayward Daisy.

There's something I love about making something that has absolutely nothing to do with Scientology.
